Trip to Mexico
Three Days in Mexico
In November I traveled to Mexico with a friend and stayed in a cute hotel in Tulum.
We were a bike ride away from the Tulum ruins and the white sandy beach. We decided to visit Tulum instead of Cancun to connect with nature and avoid the party scene.
Our first stop was to visit the ruins of Tulum where we also were able to take a dip in the private beach. The water was clear, warm and although there were quite a few people visiting the ruins that day the beach didn’t feel crowded. We skipped the guide and went exploring on our own which was perfectly fine because the guides could be overheard explaining everything to their groups.
Our next day we took a nice trip to one of the seven wonders of the world, Chichen Itza and also visited the ruins of Coba. We got to climb to the top of a pyramid which was fun for me but for my friend who was afraid of heights, the climb was terrifying. I was very proud of her when she made it to the top and back down again.
Then off we went to take a dip in a cenote called IK-KIL.
I do not know how to swim so although I love trying new things, I was terrified of being in open water. I did it and i'm glad I didn't skip it because the view was amazing and the experience, unforgettable.
The next day we took a trip to Akumal Monkey Sanctuary where we saw many different species that were rescued or donated. At the sanctuary they care for the monkeys until they can be returned to their natural environment. The monkeys that can not return due to any medical or behavioral issues, for example a monkey who was so use to being around humans they could not function without them, stayed at the sanctuary. For this reason we were also not allowed to touch or hold the monkeys but we were just happy to observe them.

Our next adventure consisted of driving an ATV through the Mayan jungle to swim in a underground cenote named Aktun Chen. To get to the swimming area we walked through the cave and could see small fishes swimming around our feet. The water was crystal clear and just over 6 feet deep, perfect for someone who doesn't know how to swim.
I would really recommend visiting Tulum for anyone looking for a fun and relaxing trip.
There's so much to do and I didn't even mention all the delicious food we had.
TACOS, GUAC AND COCONUTS!!
